Lakota Nation ambassadors represent the very best of LNI
      Sunni Busch helped her Todd County Lady Falcons win the LNI championship in a last second steal and basket at the buzzer over McLaughlin. She was named the MVP and currently is in her third year at Chadron State College where she leads her team in scoring and rebounding.

OLC Bravehearts deal with back to back long road trips
      BELCOURTE, N.Dak. - Up at the half 43-37 against Turtle Mountain, the OLC Bravehearts ran out of gas playing with only six players losing to Turtle Mountain 90-82 a week ago Saturday. Ruth Bell led OLC with 30 points, seven rebounds and three steals; Erika American Horse helped out with 21 points, five steals and six rebounds.

      RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) _ A Rapid City woman avoided jail time but does have to pay restitution for stealing pain killers from the Indian Health Service hospital where she worked. Stephanie Vedilago will be on probation five years and must repay $5,000 to Health and Human Services.

      RAPID CITY - The 32d annual Lakota Nation Invitational tournament has announced a full schedule of exciting events beginning Tuesday and culminating with the basketball championships on Saturday.       PINE RIDGE - Red Cloud led the first quarter 12-11 but the visiting Lady Mustangs took the lead in the second quarter 27-23 then held the Red Cloud to just three points in the third quarter on their way to a 46-37 opening season win over Red Cloud Thursday night.

Todd County upends Bennett County to open season
      MISSION - Todd County opened the third quarter on a 14- 0 run to take the lead after being down at the half 31-30 to Bennett County on Tuesday on their way to a 70-57 win to kick off the 2008/09 girl's basketball season. Shelby Hunger led the way for the Lady Falcons with 16 points, Jordan Rahn helped with eight.

      PINE RIDGE - After a 24-2 season last year with a third place finish at the State A tourney in Sioux Falls and 85 games in the spring and summer, Red Cloud opened a much anticipated new season with a 91-49 race horse win over Bennett County at the Paul Dizzy Trout Memorial fieldhouse on the campus of Red Cloud School Friday night.

St. Francis surprises Little Wound
      ST. FRANCIS - Tim Little Shield, a 6'3" junior for St. Francis hit for 21 of his game high 23 points in the first half as the Warriors went up 41- 28 at the half on the way to a 71-60 win over Little Wound to open the season on Friday.

      Sunni Busch/Todd County scored 10 points and grabbed 12 boards in Chadron State's 85-52 win over New Mexico Highlands Friday then hit for 17 points, three rebounds and an assist in 16 minutes in Saturday's 83-66 loss to Colorado State University-Pueblo. CSC hosts Adam State College on Saturday and Ft. Lewis College on Sunday.

2007 live births surpass 12,000
      SIOUX FALLS (AP) - The state Health Department reports 12,253 births to South Dakota residents in 2007, which translates to a rate of 16.2 per 1,000 South Dakota residents. According to the 2007 South Dakota Vital Statistics Report, resident births increased 2.8 percent from 2006.
