OST Election Commission releases executive board candidate list
Two incumbents, seven past council representatives vie for positions


PINE RIDGE - A total of 22 candidates have tossed their hat into the ring for either OST secretary, treasurer or fifth member and the critic/sergeant at arms position. Interested candidates needed to submit an application or letter of interest to the OST Election Commission by Nov.4; the new tribal council selects the executive board members during their first council meeting on December 2, the first Tuesday in December.

Crystal Eagle Elk, current treasurer, has submitted her letter of interest in serving as treasurer for another term; she is completing her second full term as treasurer, she served a partial term as well. Wesley Chuck Jacobs also has expressed interest in the position, he is completing his first term as tribal council representative from Porcupine District, he is also a past treasurer of the tribe. Duane Brewer, past councilman from Pine Ridge Village and executive director of the Oglala Sioux Rural Water Supply System and Pamela Giago, current tribal comptroller at the Prairie Wind Casino and long time B.I.A. employee have expressed interest as well

Elizabeth Waters is completing her first term as OST secretary, she has expressed an interest in serving another term. She will be joined on the list by Rhonda Two Eagles, past secretary, Cora Whiting, two time council representative from Medicine Root District, Roxanne Two Bulls and Florence Benson.

There are 11 candidates who have put in for the fifth member position including past council representatives Gerald Jump Big Crow, Tom Poor Bear, Irv Provost, Blaine Little Thunder, past OST vice president Mel Lone Hill, past secretary Donna Salomon as well as Enos Poor Bear Jr., Charles Montileaux, Anita Ecoffey, Elvyn Douglas Bissonette and Myron Pourier. Dave Pourier, Porcupine, is the incumbent and was the only current executive board member not to run for their office. Abraham Tobacco, the incumbent, and Wally Jealous are competing for the critic/sergeant at arms position.
