Little Wound's McCauley picked as pre-season first team NJCAA All American, Todd County's Busch named pre-season all conference BISMARCK/CHADRON - A number of local athletes are returning for another year in college sports; topping the list is Little Wound's TJ McCauley who returns to Bismarck State as a pre-season National Junior College Athletic Association first team All American and Sunni Busch, a Todd County graduate entering her third season at Chadron State College as a pre-season all conference performer. McCauley averaged 17.4 points a game as a freshman at Bismarck State coming within one game of qualifying for the National JUCO tourney. He finished with 99 assists and 69 steals. "This year I am going back to school in much better shape than I did last year," said McCauley in mid- August as he looked ahead to his second year at BSC, "we have a new coach but he runs the same game, we should be one of the favorites in the conference, our goal has to be to get to nationals this year." In five games so far this year, McCauley is averaging 28 points a game and 5.5 rebounds during 30 minutes of playing time each game. "During the second half of the season, we were really challenged with tough competition, it made me step up my game," said McCauley, "I'm really looking forward to helping this team do well this year." Next year, McCauley would like to attend a school in South Dakota, a little closer to his family, maybe even South Dakota State in Brookings. Sunni Busch led her team in almost every statistical category last year. She averaged 13.4 points and 6.1 rebounds a game for the Lady Eagles. Busch, a 5'8" junior from from Mission will be playing for her third coach in three years at Chadron; Tim Connealey, a Chadron native replaced Mike Maloney who resigned in late July after one year as head coach. Chadron opened their season with an exhibition game at Nebraska, play at Southwest State University in Marshall, Min on Nov. 15 and at Augustana in Sioux Falls on Nov. 16 - their first home game will be Black Hills State on Dec. 9. Little Wound's Ty Pourir will be returning for her second year at Bismarck as well. Pourier will be one of only three sophomores on the team and is expected to help out as both point and shooting guard this year. In five games this year, Pourier is averaging 25 minutes a game with eight points, four rebounds and 1.5 assists.
Dave "Bulldawg" Michaud returned to SDSU for his second year, he went out for the football team again this year, this time making it as either a running back or a fullback. Michaud plans to wrestle this year. Last year he did not make the football team and worked out with the wrestling team but chose not to compete. He has put his MMA career on hold until April.
