RAPID CITY - The 32nd annual Lakota Nation Invitational high school boy's and girl's basketball tournaments set for December 17-20 in Rapid City at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center will host a reunion of players and coaches who participated in the State Catholic tournaments. Although all of the details are yet to be determined, Friday, December 19 will be the reunion day with activities throughout the day.

The State Catholic tournaments went from 1937 to 1964; St. Francis won the first four, Sioux Falls O'Gorman won the last in 1964. Holy Rosary, Sioux Falls Cathedral, Mitchell Notre Dame, Howard St. Agatha, Stephan and Marty Mission all won championships over the years.

There will be plenty of time to visit, remember the good times, view exhibits, share a meal, watch some of the fast paced action of the Lakota Nation tourney and spend time in the civic center's new addition.

For many years, Catholic schools were not allowed to participate in South Dakota High School Activities Association events. A lawsuit against the state and the association cleared the way for Catholic schools participation in the mid 60's. Duane and Dennis Brewer and Rol Bradford are only three of the many names involved in the last State Catholic tournament in 1964.
