WATERTOWN - In the first two games in the 2009 State A Tourney in Watertown, the Pine Ridge Lady Thorpes struggled with their shots and with turnovers but found a way to win, defeating Wagner 51 to 45 and Newell 46-42. More ... As the number two seed, Pine Ridge opened the 2009 tourney Thursday against Wagner who had knocked off 18-2 Parkston on the way to get to the tournament. The Lady Thorpes started slow, struggling to take care of the ball and finding it tough to buy a basket going down 9-8 at the end of one. More ... In a match-up of two West River teams Newell 23-1 and Pine Ridge 23-1, the Irrigators found a rhythm much sooner than Pine Ridge as the Lady Thorpes missed shot after shot to find themselves down 28-25 at the half. Pine Ridge stepped up their defense after the break holding Newell to just five third quarter points and gaining a 35-33 third quarter lead. More ... SIOUX FALLS - In 1989 the Pine Ridge Lady Thorpes entered the State A tourney at the Sioux Falls arena as a young upstart with not many people giving them much of a chance but after defeating Flandreau and Parkston they faced the number one seed and most everyone's pick as champion.
