Pearl Rose Dixon “Ta Sagye Ota Winyan”

Pearl Rose Cedar Face- Dixon was born on March 31, 1930 in Manderson, SD to William Cedarface and Jessie Rose White Wolf-Cedarface. Pearl made her journey to the Spirit World on February 10, 2017 at the Custer Regional Senior Care in Custer, SD.

Pearl was very young when her parents passed away, her grandmother, Alice Horn Cloud-White Wolf, took her and her brother Joseph “Joela” Cedarface to Mission Flats to be raised there. Her grandmother Horn Cloud-White Wolf was a survivor of the Wounded Knee Massacre and told her granddaughter everything but used to say, “now don’t talk about it to anyone because part of me died at Wounded Knee.”

Pearl married Jim Dixon and through this union was Kathleen, Lori, Rosemary, Teresa, and a long awaited son, Charles “Chuck” Dixon. After she divorced Jim, years later she met Donroy Shangreaux and two children were born to this union, Jimmy Dale Shangreaux and Susan Shangreaux- Hudspeth.

Pearl worked many years for Darwin “Bogie” Carlow as the head cook for the meals for the Elderly in Pine Ridge. After retirement, Pearl enjoyed home life reading westerns, watching westerns, and being with all of her grandchildren.

Pearl is survived by her sisters, Susanna Swallow and Josephine Fast Wolf daughter, Susan (Dan, Jr.) Shangreaux- Hudspeth; hunka children, Carole O’Rourke, Abraham Tobacco, Colleen Cottier, Fred Pond, Berta Crazy Thunder, and Connie Giroux; and a grandson who she raised to adulthood, Jeff Janis, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and greatgreat grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Pearl was preceded in death by her children, Kathleen “KK” Dixon, Lori Dixon, Rosemary Dixon, Teresa Dixon, Charles “Chucky” Dixon, and Jimmy Dale Shangreaux; parents, William Cedarface and Jessie Rose White Wolf; after her parents passed away, she was raised by her uncle and aunt, Charles White Wolf, Sr. and Susanne White Wolf- Red Bear (whom she called mom); siblings, Samuel Cedarface, Paul Cedarface, Ann Cedarface, Christine Cedarface-Shoulders, Joseph Cedarface, Bobby White Wolf, Vincent White Wolf, Edward White Wolf, Luigie White Wolf, and her most beloved brother, Charles White Wolf, Jr.; and grandchildren, Waylen Arcoren, Kyanna Dixon, Paul Giago, Jr., Briar Arcoren, and Jennifer Arcoren.

A two-night wake service was held for Pearl today at 1:00 PM, Thursday, February 16, 2017 at the Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge, SD with Rosary Services starting at 7:00 PM, Friday, February 17, 2017 also at Billy Mills Hall. Funeral Services will take place at 10:00 AM, Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge, SD with Father Edmund Yainao, Mr. Charles McGaa and Reverend Abraham Tobacco and traditional Lakota services conducted by Mr. Fred Cedarface. Burial services will conclude at the White Wolf Family Cemetery, Mission Flats, Pine Ridge, SD.
