RC Stevens Looks To Contend For State AA Championship

BOYS high school basketball

RAPID CITY - On Thursday, RC Stevens opens their participation in the 2017 State AA boys basketball tournament as the #3 seed with a 16-5 record, they play #6 seed Pierre at 7pm in the Civic Center’s Ice Arena.

Last year, the Raiders took third in the State AA tournament and from the coach, Chris Stoebner, and down through the team, this year’s goal is to compete for the State AA championship. Stevens played #1 seed SF O’Gorman twice, beating them in Sioux Falls 64-54 and losing at home 71-65. Stevens defeated Pierre late in the season 60-44 at home. The Raiders did not play #2 seed Brookings during the regular season, they could end up playing the Bobcats in the semi-finals.

The Raiders are led by senior guard Mason Archambault who is averaging 18 points per game, 2.8 rebounds and leads the team in assists and steals. Archambault first set a new Stevens scoring record earlier this season and hit his 1,000th point later in the season. Senior Jacob Martin averages 14.1 points a game with 4.4 rebounds a game.

In a Prep Hoops contest for Player of the Year that just closed last week, Archambault finished second to Sioux Valley’s Tate Vincent, 40,362 - 30,727; SF O’Gorman’s Matt Cartwright was third with 14,121, Sam Arendt/ Bridgewater/Emery 1,905 and Ethan Freidel/Tea Area 1,901.
