Anna Mae Fleury

Anna Mae Metcalf-Fleury (Nawizi Iye-Jealous of Her) was born to Elsie Mae (Oakiye) and Theodore Metcalf, Sr. on June 6, 1943 in Rosebud, SD. She made her journey to the spirit world on April 8, 2017 in Sioux Falls Sanford Hospital due to diabetic complications, her sister Donna, her daughters, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren were at her side. Her departure came nine days after she took ill which is the 22nd anniversary of her mom’s death. Anna grew up in Rosebud and Fort Thompson and attended school at both places. She was the oldest of 15 children, and was the mom of seven children, Enola (Big Eagle) Sazue, Collette Big Eagle (deceased), Orlando Big Eagle, Jr. (deceased), Tristan Moses Big Eagle, Kimberly Big Eagle (Chris) Bearface, Lynn McBride, Lester McBride, and hunka son Dillion Robert Fleury, and 3 hunka daughters Shannon Shields, Leatha Loudner, and Mabel Horned Eagle. She was employed in various positions at Crow Creek High School and as a CNA at St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre, SD. She later became a homemaker, caring for her children, and was a board member of the Golden Age Elderly program. She enjoyed cooking, reading, embroidery, playing cards, bingo, casino, and spending time with her grandchildren, family, and friends. Anna held a special place in her heart for her nephew Chaske Metcalf, nieces Christine Andrade, Adrienne Two Hawks, and Ashley Devine. She said they make it a point to check in on me or call me. Preceding her in the spirit world is her daughter Collette; son Orlando; granddaughter Angelia Sazue; parents Elsie and Ted Sr.; paternal grandparents Walter and Jenny (Beavias) Metcalf and Joseph and Ada (Leroy) Oakiye; husband Harvey Robert (Chaske) Fleury; sisters Arliss, Janice, Algina, Jeanette; brothers Darrell, Lester, Delbert, Wilmer, Nathan, Ervin, and Harlan. Her survivors are her children, Enola, Kimberly, Tristan, Lester; hunka daughters Shannon, Leatha, and Mable of Fort Thompson, Lynn of Winner, and Dillion of Pierre; sister Donna and Charles Devin of Pierre; hunka sister Jean Nahomni Mani of Phoenix, AZ; brother T. J. Metcalf, Rena Metcalf; hunka sister Pearl Kirkie all of Fort Thompson; and aunt Phyllis Patterson Powers of Wagner; 14 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Anna Mae Fleury, 73, of Fort Thompson were held at 10:00 pm Friday, April 14, 2017 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Thompson with burial in the Presbyterian Cemetery at Crow Creek, SD.
