VERMILLION, SD – The South Dakota Shakespeare Festival is excited to host award-winning, Mohegan stage director, Madeline Sayet, for a week-long residency focusing on Shakespeare in Native Communities.

The South Dakota Shakespeare Festival (SDSF) invites the public to a free community gathering and meal Thursday, February 14, 6:30pm, in the Kozak Room of the Vermillion Public Library as part of this residency.

Community members can gather, eat, & learn about Sayet’s work and the SDSF while brainstorming ways the community can be involved in this exciting production. A traditional meal will be provided. Sayet is stage director of SDSF’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, to be held June 6-9, 2019, in Vermillion’s Prentis Park.

The public is also invited to an “Indigenous Shakespeares” lecture, Tuesday, Feb. 12, 5pm, Farber Hall. Reception follows at Native American Cultural Center. Other activities include campus meet & greets and classroom visits at USD and Flandreau Indian School. The residency is sponsored, in part, by the SD Humanities Council, SD Arts Council, the USD Office of Diversity and USD Departments of Theatre, English & Anthropology.
