Burnette Runs Todd County Past Red Cloud, Little Wound Picks Up First Win

MISSION/DEADWOOD – Todd County senior running back Bryant Burnette carried the ball 27 Times for 187 yards and touchdowns of seven and two yards leading the Falcons to a 39-24 win Friday night over visiting Red Cloud.

Red Cloud opened the scoring halfway through the first quarter as senior quarterback Ale Rama connected with Manual Arviso on a two yard TD pass, the attempt at a two point conversion by pass failed and it was 6-0. Just before the end of the first, Todd County’s Josh Rowland scored on an end around from 16 yards out, the kick failed and it was 6-6 after the first quarter.

Two and a half minutes into the second quarter, Burnette scored the first of his two TD’s on a seven yard run right up the middle, Falcon quarterback Aiden Bizardie ran the two point conversion in and it was Todd County up 14-6. A minute and a half later Rama scored on a five yard quarterback keeper, the run failed and it was Falcons up 14- 12. Todd County bounced right back, scoring on a 22 yard run by William Marshall, Bizardie hit the PAT kick and it was Todd County up at the half 21-12.

Just a minute into the third quarter, Rama connected on a 14 yard TD pass with Riyen Carlow, the kick failed and it was 21- 18. Rama suffered a deep thigh bruise and was out of the game in the third. Burnette scored on a two yard run, then Rowland grabbed a 19 yard TD pass from Bizardie and it was Todd County up 33-18 after three quarters. Both teams added a score in the fourth as Rowland caught another TD pass from Bizardie, for eight yards and Jevon Hacker scored on a one yard run giving Todd County a 39-24 win over a Red Cloud.

Rama going out in the third quarter and five turnovers hampered Red Cloud’s attempt at picking up their fourth win of the season. Todd County, as a team, rushed for 333 yards on 48 carries, Burnette finished with 187 yards on the ground, William Marshall had nine carries for 89 yards. On the defensive side, Lancer White Feather and Jaden Kettell led the Falcons with 13 tackles, Josh Rowland had 11.

Red Cloud is now 3-2 and travels to Bennett County on Friday night, Todd County is 4-1 and heads to Standing Rock on Friday night.

Pine Ridge rolls over Crow Creek for their third straight win

PINE RIDGE – With a solid team effort, Pine Ridge picked up their third straight win Friday night with a 50-0 thrashing of visiting Crow Creek.

“Our defense played well, good discipline, good execution, our special teams picked up as well,” said Pine Ridge head coach Sam Bravo, “We have all freshman and sophomores on the line so the season has been a building and learning process; if we can stay healthy, we can compete.”

DJ Vitalis had a 50 punt return for a touchdown and two TD’s on the ground for 10 and 30 yards; Halin Bad Bear hit Jesse Jensen on TD passes of 40, 15 and 15 yards and connected with Joe Mousseau on a 30 yard TD pass, Richard Garcia punched it in for a score from the five yard line while Corey Brown caught a two point conversion pass from Jarren Crow.

“We’ve been balancing our running game with a passing game,” said Bravo, “We need to carry this momentum into the next game, we host Custer on Friday night.”

LeBeau leads Little Wound over McLaughlin for first win of season

DEADWOOD – After losing their first four games of the season, Little Wound balanced a solid offense with a stingy defense to pick up a 36-6 win over McLaughlin, Saturday in Deadwood, their first win of the year.

Little Wound’s junior quarterback, Mankato LeBeau, intercepted a McLaughlin pass 43 seconds into the game then led the Mustangs down the field, finishing the drive with a two yard quarterback keeper for a Little Wound 6-0 lead. Six minutes later, LeBeau connected with Duece Martin on a 73 yard TD pass, Brent Tallman plowed through the line for the two point conversion and it was Little Wound up 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.

After an exchange of fumbles, LeBeau hit freshman Trevin Vasquez on a nine yard TD pass, the two point run failed and it was a 20-0 Little Wound lead. McLaughlin’s Leon Brown Otter ran the kickoff back 77 yards to put McLaughlin on the board. LeBeau racked up his third TD pass, 28 yards to Emilio Cespedes, the two point run was good and it was now 28-6. Chayden Miller intercepted a Brown Otter pass at Little Wound’s 35 yard line and Shadow Red Owl found Cespedes on a 65 yard touchdown pass, Red Owl passed to a Miller for the two point conversion and it was 36-6.

Little Wound is now 1-4 and travels to Belle Fourche on Friday, McLaughlin is now 3-2 and heads to Lead-Deadwood on Friday.
