LLOYD JAMES JANIS


OCTOBER 21, 1958- OCTOBER 13, 2018

Lloyd James Janis was born Oct. 21, 1958 in Douglas, Wyo. To Leo Cleveland Janis and Anna Randall Janis. Lloyd made his journey to the spirit world on Oct. 13, 2018 at his home in Wanblee, S.D.

Grateful to have shared in his life, is his wife of 38 years, Karen DeCory Janis, his daughters, Tiffany (Victor) Castro of Blue River, Ky., Trista (Josh) Janis of Ballground, GA., and one son Gordon (Heather) Janis of Wanblee, S.D. Brother, Stanley (Marion) Janis of Parmelee, S.D., Sisters, Sandra (Stanly Sr) Janis, Amelia (Seth) Blackbear of Wanblee, S.D, Annie E. Janis of Fort Collins, CO, and Aunt Francine Red Willow of Wanblee, SD. Grandchildren: Tristan Janis, Beau & Bailian Randall, Kenyon Janis, Riley Schendoah, River & Anthony Fero, Gianna Janis & twins on the way. Also, all his nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

Lloyd attended Crazy Horse School from Kindergarten to twelfth grade, in which he graduated in 1977. After he graduated from Crazy Horse School, he was employed at Livermont Grocery store where he was a manager. Lloyd then decided to further his education; he attended United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck, N.D. Where he earned his certificate in “electrical” in 1982. He worked at Crazy Horse School for 30 years. Two years as a paraprofessional, then as a Facilities Manager for 28 years. Lloyd was skilled in many areas, such as electrical, furnaces, air conditioning, plumbing and all other skills required to operate CHS efficiently. Lloyd was instrumental in acquiring the new gym floor at CHS and obtaining emergency funds for CHS. At the time of his death, Lloyd worked at Eagle Nest College Center in Wanblee. Lloyd had great pride and commitment in all that he accomplished.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Cleve & Annie Janis, Brother, Melvin, Nick, Peter & Paul Janis, Sisters Belva Young & Linda Red Willow, Maternal Grandparents, Margaret Hornbeck & Frank Randall, Paternal Grandparents, Benjamin “Tex” Janis & Mabel Rooks.

A two-night wake service began on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at the Crazy Horse School in Wanblee, SD. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at the Crazy Horse School in Wanblee, SD. Officiating was Fr. Ron Seminara, S.J. Traditional Lakota Services were also held. Burial Services were held at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Hisle, SD. Arrangements entrusted with Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD.
