ROSEBUD RESERVATION – When you turn on the news or open your mobile device you have access to the World Wide Web. The internet is a global source of news and publications. There are news applications on your mobile device, dedicated channels to 24-7 news, and just about every race representing those syndicates and their platforms. Except for indigenous peoples across all seven continents; indigenous people’s news is not mainstream media nor is it seen or heard on major news outlets. However, when it comes to world events, indigenous peoples are always on the front line. Where is the indigenous perspective from an unbiased source?

Wizipan Little Elk is looking to change that standpoint. Little Elk created a place online that would house all his writings and potential a source for a podcast. Little Elk didn’t want his writings to have any sort of limitations. In the news media business, formats and limitations are a norm for public writings. It’s a reflection of the media outlet so writers are subjected to formats, deadlines and certain limitations. So Little Elk decided to create a website that will be dedicated to interests he has.

Another reason for his own little media outlet is so that he can host his very own podcast. With this website he’ll be able to link all his recorded media to a source so he can have a podcast. The podcast is going to be called “Natives Save the World”. Little Elk doesn’t expect to be the main voice in his website, but a location for writers who feel the need to express themselves to have an outlet.

“This website will be a place, thinkers and writers can write whatever they want to,” said Wizipan.

“I would like for everyone to have a podcast, let’s flood the market with Native podcasts,” Little Elk states. One of the goals he hopes to accomplish with this move of creating a website is exposure. Little Elk feels that Native people have a lot to contribute to current events and pending topics. One example he states is the potential war in the middle east. Native peoples are the highest per capita serving in the United States military. The fact that we can’t find a voice or an opinion about our position on the potential war is a disservice to our relatives. If we go to war, they’ll be more Natives fighting than any other ethic service person. We need to give them a voice.

Climate Change is another area where indigenous peoples are always at the front lines of oil pipeline or any construction that might potentially damage mother earth. With this website, we will have the position to serve our relatives, and their views and ideas pertaining to climate change.

If humanity is going to exist past itself, Little Elk feels the world is going to need indigenous perspectives. With this website we can have a collective of many voices and a platform for their thoughts and ideas. Currently the podcast is pending launch but Little Elk is getting ready and excited.
