We are hoping the release of names will help parents and community members know who is using and distributing this poison in our communities and take necessary precautions when dealing with these individuals.

“It is important to understand that all suspects are “presumed innocent” until proven guilty in court.

“We continue to appreciate all the leads and information that is being provided by the general public. You can call us with information at (605) 747-5928 (PD Admin), (605) 856-8711 (Criminal Investigations) or (605) 856-2282 (Dispatch). Thank you.”

On August 26, RSTLES also posted a report on Facebook regarding the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Fair and Wacipi, which included the following narratives for August 22-25, 2019.

“During the fair Rosebud Law Enforcement responded to 415 calls for service and arrested 25 adult females, 69 adult males, 2 juvenile males and 2 juvenile females. Total arrests were 98 tribal citizens.

Also, some major events the police responded to included:

“On August 23, 2019 officers served a search warrant in the Rosebud community. As a result, methamphetamines, US currency, drug paraphernalia, scales and multiple plastic baggies were seized. 2 adult tribal females and 2 adult tribal males were arrested.

“On August 24, 2019 an officer conducted a traffic stop in the Rosebud community. As a result, a stolen vehicle and drug paraphernalia were seized. 2 adult tribal females who escaped from Hughes County Jail were arrested and 1 adult tribal mail was arrested. *

“On August 25, 2019 officers responded to a resident in the Rosebud community where 1 adult tribal male was arrested and a stole firearm was recovered.

“Anyone with information on illegal drug activity is urged to contact the Rosebud Police Department. All information received will be followed up on and kept confidential.”

*Editor’s note: the 2 females arrested on August 24 escaped from the South Dakota Women’s Prison, not the Hughes County Jail. They took a truck from a work release site in Pierre. Both women remain in Rosebud’s Adult Correction Facility on tribal charges as the Rosebud Sioux Tribe does not have an extradition agreement with the State of South Dakota.
